ShinMaywa Norus Submersible Pumps For Waterfalls & Ponds
ShinMaywa Norus Pumps are premium submersible pond pumps engineered for demanding water feature applications. Constructed from durable stainless steel and corrosion-resistant amide fiber-reinforced resin, these pumps are built for reliable continuous-duty operation. Their impressive high-head performance maintains water flow as backpressure increases, delivering more water to your waterfall, creating a fuller, wider display, and providing superior performance on longer plumbing runs.
ShinMaywa offers a 2 year motor warranty on all their Norus motors, giving you peace of mind!
Our favorite fun fact about this Norus pump: the impellers used in the Norus CR Series pumps are more than 100 times as strong as impellers made of ordinary ABS resin against wear cause by sand, detergents, solids, etc.

Cells highlighted in green represent the pump’s most efficient operating parameters.
Performance values shown are based on clean water under standard testing conditions. Actual flow rates may vary depending on plumbing layout, pipe diameter, fittings, and installation conditions.
Understanding the Performance Chart
The performance chart above shows how the ShinMaywa Norus pump performs under different operating conditions. It helps you estimate how much water the pump will deliver based on the amount of resistance (head pressure) in your plumbing system.
Step 1: Estimate your system’s total head pressure.
Step 2: Find your estimated total head pressure across the top of the chart.
Step 3: Read down that column to compare each pump model’s flow rate in GPM (Gallons Per Minute) and GPH (Gallons Per Hour).
Step 4: Choose the pump that provides the flow your waterfall or water feature requires at your operating head pressure.
For example, if your system has approximately 20 feet of total head, the 50CR2.75S pump will deliver roughly 80 GPM (4,800 GPH), while the 50CR2.4S will produce approximately 45 GPM (2,700 GPH).
Step 1: Measure vertical head pressure by measuring the vertical distance in feet from the pumping water level to the highest point the water must reach.
Step 2: Measure the distance of the pipe tube you’ll be using from the pump to the waterfall and divide by 10.
Step 3: Add the results from steps 1 and 2 to get your answer.
Example: You are using 20 feet of pipe tubing and the vertical height from your pump to your waterfall outlet is 6 feet, this means your head pressure is 8 feet.
(20/10) + 6 = 8 Feet Head Pressure
Many customers assume that head pressure is simply the vertical distance the water in your system is pumped. In reality, it’s the combined resistance created by:
- Vertical lift
- Pipe length
- Pipe diameter
- Elbows and fittings
- Valves
- Filters or UV clarifiers
- Waterfall spillways or discharge restrictions
Even a pump moving water only 8 feet upward may experience 20–30 feet of head pressure once plumbing losses are included. The greater the head pressure, the harder the pump must work.
Why It Matters
As resistance increases, every pump delivers less water. Selecting the correct model ensures your waterfall or water feature receives the flow it needs without overspending on unnecessary horsepower or ending up with disappointing performance.
